....back to History

History of Make-up (continuation)

……Make-up firms boomed in the 1900’s and it was started by the largest and oldest which is L’Oreal and this was founded by Eugene Schueller in 1909. It is the French Harmless Hair Coloring Company now owned by Liliane Bettencourt 26%, Nestle 28% and 46% of it were publicly traded. This was eventually followed in the US by Elizabeth Arden, Helena Rubinstein and Max Factor in 1910. These firms were joined by Revlon before the World War ll and Estee Lauder just after. But now we all have more choices in buying branded make-up like MAC, She Uemura, Bobby Brown, Lancome, Chanel, Bourjois, Lancaster, Giorgio Armani, The Body Shop, Clinique, Rimmel, Maybelline and... kayo na bahala dun sa iba…hehehe. And syempre we won’t forget our local brands such as Fanny Serrano (F21), Natasha, Ever Bilena etc….
Of course we can choose whether we want to buy branded or local products (ang dami na kasi nila). Just be sure lang that they pass the standards na gusto nyo makuha pag ginamit nyo na sya.  ‘till next time!!!!

History of Make-up

**“Cosmetics are substances used to enhance the appearance or odor of the human body. Cosmetics include skin-care creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail and toe nail polish, eye and facial makeup, permanent waves, colored contact lenses, hair colors, hair sprays [3] and gels, deodorants, baby products, bath oils, bubble baths, bath salts, butters and many other types of products. A subset of cosmetics is called "make-up," which refers primarily to colored products intended to alter the user’s appearance. Many manufacturers distinguish between decorative cosmetics and care cosmetics.”

Syempre first thing I want to share with you is kung san nag-originate ang make-up….;)

Make-up started from our kapatirans from the land of Egypt. And the weird thing about them is that they use copper and lead! (ewww! delikado ata yun ha! :{) **The ancient kingdom of Israel was influenced by cosmetics as recorded in the Old Testament – 2 Kings 9:30 where Jezebel painted her eyelids – appriximately 840BC. In the Bible, the book of Esther describes various beauty treatments as well. *Women throughout the history put their health at risk with many of their homemade cosmetics. They use burnt matches to darken their eyes..(buti di sila napapaso!) berries to stain their lips and young boy’s urine to fade their freckles. Umiinom din sila ng dugo ng Ox to improve their complexion. Other cultures use arsenic, lead, mercury and even leeches to give themselves the pail appearance (ngee!) but thanks to our cosmetic industry that we don’t have to use those things na nabanggit ko para gumanda!hahaha. (at least rashes lang makukuha mo today pag ‘di nagmatch sa sensitive skin mo!) But now cosmetic industry have improved their works and kaya marami ng naglalabasan na mga hypo-allergenic na make-up which is good sa mga sensitive na skin and the latest is mineral make-up…

To be continued…. J
